Nothing has a greater influence on the quality of children’s’ sports than the excellence of the coach.  The MARS staff consists of professional, highly trained coaches with many years of experience.  Certified coaches in USA Swimming programs possess training and experience in the physiology, biomechanics and psychology of adolescent development.  Our coaching staff provides the assurances that the time your children spends in swimming will be quality time.

Brian Dangelmaier

HEAD COACH

ASCA Level 3 coach with over 18 years experience.  Former professor of biomechanics at the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) with more than 45 professional publications and presentations.  Author or co-author of three books covering topics of biomechanics and physiology of sport (curriculum vita).  Coach of 2002 and 2004 High School National Champion and several Top 16 National Reportable swimmers.  Brian is also a licensed Expert Coach with USA Cyclingfor more than 19 years.  Long time member of the Board of Trustees of the Texas Chapter of the American College of Sports Medicine (TACSM), Age Group Chairman of North Texas Swimming, and member of the Age Group Development Committee at USA Swimming. Brian was elected to the position of USA Swimming Southern Zone Age Group Chairman in 2008. Brian earned his Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science at UTA, his Masters of Science degree from the University of North Texas, and is a doctoral candidate in biomechanics at Texas Woman’s University.  Brian is a full-time Arlington ISD swimming coach and teacher at Lamar High School.  Brian's phone number is 817-925-0505.

Suzanne Dangelmaier

MARS Senior Assistant Coach with more than 10 years of coaching experience and more than 12 years experience in many other areas of aquatics.  Suzanne is a American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor, Water Safety Instructor and Certified Pool Operator.  She also serves as the Diversity and Outreach Chair for NT Swimming and is the Director of the MARS Foundation.  Suzanne earned her Bachelors of Science degree in Exercise Science from UTA and her Master’s Degree in Education, also at UTA. Suzanne was the Arlington Seguin High School head swimming coach from 2002-2005. Daniel Jau

HEAD AGE GROUP COACH

Head Age-Group Coach with more than 10 years of coaching experience. Daniel earned his Bachelors degree in Criminology/Criminal Justice from UTA and currently working on his Master’s Degree in Education, also at UTA. Daniel is the head high school swimming coach at Grapevine High School, Colleyville Heritage High School, and Nolan Catholic High School. Daniel has coached district champions, region champions, state qualifiers and champions, All Americans and Academic All-Americans at the high school level.  Daniel has coached swimmers who have achieved TAGS and sectionals time standards. He has had the honor of coaching a wide range of athletes across North Texas Swimming as a coach for Team North Texas at the All-Star and Zone meets numerous times.  Daniel is a member of Texas Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association (TISCA) and National Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association (NISCA).  Daniel's phone number is 817-797-4086.

Betsie Cook

Age Group 1 Coach since 2004. Betsie began coaching the novice group part-time in 2002. While at Sam Houston High School, Betsie was a 4 time Region Qualifier, team captain for 3 years, and an Academic All-American her senior year. David Coward

David comes to us after two years in our swim lesson program.  David is a life-long swimmer and swim instructor.  He earned his bachelor's degree from UT Arlington and his MBA from the University of Dallas.

Ashley Carney

NOVICE COACH

Ashley is our Novice coach at the Hugh Smith pool.  She began swimming at the age of 8 for the Irving Swimmers, then swam for Macarthur High School and qualifying for Regional’s twice.  She was also water polo captain her senior year. She has been a certified lifeguard for 4 years and  a Water Safety Instructor for the past 2. She is currently attending Northlake College and is majoring in Biology.

Lauren Black

Lauren is an age group coach at  the Trinity pool. She began swimming at the age of eight for Emler’s Swim school and then swam for Lamar High School for four years.  She has worked for MARS as a swim lessons instructor for several summers during summer breaks from college.  She has been a certified Lifeguard for 3 years.  Lauren just graduated in May from the University of the Ozarks with a BA in Religion.  She is also the youth director for First Presbyterian Church of Richardson and the assistant swim coach for Nolan Catholic High School.
