MARS Coaching Staff

Nothing has a greater influence on the quality of children's' sports than the excellence of the coach.  The MARS staff consists of professional, highly trained coaches with many years of experience.  Certified coaches in USA Swimming programs possess training and experience in the physiology, biomechanics and psychology of adolescent development.  Our coaching staff provides the assurances that the time your children spends in swimming will be quality time.


     BRIAN DANGELMAIER - PROGRAM DIRECTOR / HEAD COACH

ASCA Level 3 coach with over 16 years experience.  Former professor of biomechanics at the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) with more than 45 professional publications and presentations.  Author or co-author of three books covering topics of biomechanics and physiology of sport (curriculum vita).  Coach of 2002 and 2004 High School National Champion and several Top 16 National Reportable swimmers.  Brian is also a licensed Expert Coach with USA Cycling for more than 18 years.  Long time member of the Board of Trustees of the Texas Chapter of the American College of Sports Medicine (TACSM), Age Group Chairman of North Texas Swimming, and member of the Age Group Development Committee at USA Swimming. Brian was elected to the position of USA Swimming Southern Zone Age Group Chairman in 2008. Brian earned his Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science at UTA, his Masters of Science degree from the University of North Texas, and is a doctoral candidate in biomechanics at Texas Woman's University.  Brian is a full-time Arlington ISD swimming coach and teacher at Lamar High School.


    SUZANNE DANGELMAIER - SENIOR ASSISTANT COACH

MARS Senior Assistant Coach with more than 9 years of coaching experience and more than 11 years experience in many other areas of aquatics.  Suzanne is a American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor, Water Safety Instructor and Certified Pool Operator.  Suzanne earned her Bachelors of Science degree in Exercise Science from UTA and her Master's Degree in Education, also at UTA. Suzanne was the Arlington Seguin head swimming coach from 2002-2005. Suzanne also currently works as an adjunct professor at UT Arlington teaching in the exercise physiology labs and as a part-time health teacher at The Montessori Academy in Arlington.


DANIEL JAU- HEAD AGE GROUP COACH

Head Age-Group Coach with more than 7 years of coaching experience and more than 10 years experience in many other areas of aquatics. Daniel earned his Bachelors degree in Criminology/Criminal Justice from UTA and currently working on his Master's Degree in Education, also at UTA. Daniel is a full-time high school swimming coach with the Grapevine-Colleyville school district. Daniel has coached district champions, region qualifiers and finalists, TAGS qualifiers and finalists, and an Academic All-American. In addition, he is a certified Water Safety Instructor and Certified Pool Operator. Daniel is a member of Texas Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association (TISCA) and National Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association (NISCA).


    Betsie Cook - AGE GROUP COACH

Age Group 1 Coach since 2004. Betsie began coaching the novice group part-time in 2002. While at Sam Houston High School, Betsie was a 4 time Region Qualifier, team captain for 3 years, and an Academic All-American her senior year. Betsie is currently a student at TCC.


Brandy Waller - AGE GROUP COACH

Brandy is the pool supervisor and Age Group Coach at Hugh Smith.


Alisha Bridwell - AGE GROUP COACH

Alisha is a life-long swimmer and has lived in the area her entire life.  She came to us from Southwest Aquatics Team (SWAT) where she was an age group coach there for more than 2 years.  Alisha is attending UTA and is studying to become an elementary school teacher.


David Coward - NOVICE COACH

David comes to us after two years in our swim lesson program.  David is a life-long swimmer and swim instructor.  He earned his bachelor's degree from UT Arlington and his MBA from the University of Dallas.


Heather Thompson - NOVICE COACH

Heather is our Novice coach at the Hugh Smith pool.


Sarah Kelly - NOVICE COACH

Sarah is our Novice coach at TCC.
